The Taniwha Chronicles: cover

Star Trek: Legacy I - The Taniwha Chronicles

A series I have been working on for years, years and YEARS is Star Trek: Legacy. I named this...well, ages ago. Similar, if not the same name has popped up a few times before. This is my care face. :|

Part I is The Taniwha Chronicles; a Nebula-class vessel of that name explores the Alpha Quadrant and follows orders by Starfleet. Nothing too out of the ordinary here.

This sketch is the beginnings of a cover project - here are four of the main characters, and the four key ranking officers aboard the USS Taniwha.

Centre, left:
Captain Tracy Rutherford

For anyone already noticing a pattern...thumbs up and a cookie. You've earned it.

Rutherford is a tiny wee woman with a dragon inside. She has a cheery, friendly attitude towards life and others - but that doesn't for a moment get in the way of making a hard, if not brutal decision. If anything she's a reflection of what Starfleet want to see in a Captain.

She has risen through the ranks with decent pace. The Taniwha is her second command, and the most impressive vessel she could have dreamed of commanding. Being of a scientific background, naturally, Starfleet assigned her a ship of the same nature; this is exploration and discovery at its truest.

Back on Earth she has a husband and a pet dog, though she sees little of either. Ultimately she is married to her job, and though people hassle her about it, she wouldn't have it any other way.

Left:
Commander Torek T'Mor

Yes, you've seen lots of him throughout my gallery.

He makes no effort to hide the fact that he is Romulan; nor does he make any efforts to maintain the appearance one would expect. He's casual to the point of almost being scruffy, and though he is relatively laid-back and approachable, there is a darkness in his 'puppy-dog' eyes that few can detect.

Defecting at the tender age of 16, at this point in his life he's lived almost half of it in Federation interests. As a result he is surprisingly up to speed with 'Human' culture, slang and ideals. This is to the point that if a fellow Starfleet officer quizzes him about his favourite 'Earth' music, his answer is likely to throw them off.

At 6'2" he's not small. Rising through the ranks as a security officer, he's often been used as 'hired muscle' - his natural Romulan strength, twice that of his human counterparts, has helped him on innumerable occasions.

As the First Officer aboard the Taniwha, Rutherford trusts him unquestionably. Whether he, as a Romulan defector, has the right to that trust, is always a matter in question...

Centre, right:
Lieutenant Commander T'Pir

Yup. She appears in other stories of mine as well.

A small, lithe Vulcan, T'Pir is the sort of woman that you can imagine working aboard a Starfleet vessel in this day and age.

She bears her emotions close to the surface, but is relatively unflappable as one would expect of a well-trained Vulcan. As another science specialist, T'Pir is the Chief Ops officer aboard the Taniwha.

Her drive to push her career means that she never bothered to marry. As such, she remains a hundred percent focused on her role as Second Officer on her current assignment. Her advice is often undeniably wise, and both senior officers are known to base decisions on her sage logic.

A close friendship between T'Pir and T'Mor is a testament to the Federation's influence in allowing people to get along despite racial tensions.

Right:
Lieutenant Kazuya Mishima

I didn't say this story wasn't a crossover. Guess what. It's a dirty bloody crossover :D

Kazuya has a habit of cheating death. Murdered by his father, then resurrected; taken out by a deadly pandemic, then healed hundreds of years after being put in stasis; this man refuses to die (even if he had NO say in any of it).

Waking up knowing no one, in a completely different time, was enough of a shock to the systems to set right his often questionable sanity. With no enemies to fight, no corporations to control and no vendettas to win, Kazuya was left with one option: survive in the 24th century.

It wasn't long before he joined Starfleet in an effort to learn more about what happened to Earth. Given no one knew of his past, it was easy for him to build a new life; specialising in security and tactical duties, Mishima was soon posted aboard Starfleet vessels as a trained officer.

His station aboard the Taniwha is yet another position where people repeatedly try to break his stony facade, force him to open up, to smile... but the stoic Chief of Security doesn't believe in all this soppy garbage. He's here to do one job, and one job only - protect the Taniwha.

The fact that his past haunts him every damn night has little effect on his daily activities........right?

More for this story hopefully soon. I'm currently trying to resurrect a Wacom that's so old it's gone yellow...because my trusty Intuos2 shat its pen right before I lost it -______-

I like the friendship between Vulcan and Romulan. Nice crew sshould be intresting to read.

Also, i know this is a little late, but the T' prefix is only used for females in the Romulan Empire. It's Tr' for males. I know in Voyager it's different. My info is considered none canon though since it comes from the Rihannsu series by Diane Duane. Anyways, just thought you might want to know.
