Well, as promised, I have begun painting the rest of Candle's Glow without the lineart. Here's a preview...of Kazuya =3
This is still in progress, and once again I'd love everyone's two cents. This one is entering a competition here in NZ...top prize is 100 bucks, and a PS2. Category price is the 100 bucks...which I could very much do with! So it's gotta be its best.
Keep in mind that this is meant to look as real as possible, so constructive criticism is what I need. Don't mind backgrounds and such, have a close look at the details of the face and body. What shading where would make it look better? What can be done with certain features to improve the way they look? What photoshop techniques would make things look a little smarter, for those that really know what they're doing? Give me as many improvements as you can folks, be as harsh as you want...as long as you don't tell me something's crap and don't tell me how to -fix- it!
I hope this proves to be as entertaining for you as it is educational to me...
Erm,constructive critics....eh,first,do you shade with the burn tool? If yes I suggest you to use the brush tool with either a darker shade or use purple, blue or green to shade (on a different layer,on top of the skin base). You have to reduce the opacity though because no one wants to see a purple Kazy except as a Devil
For the hair, you should maybe try to not smear or blur the white highlights.Use a 1 pixel brush to do very fine strands of hair, highlights are always shiny, not smooth. You can even use a very pale brown/beige or yellow instead because your light source is a dim light. Also,if he is sitting behind Jin,Jin's shadow should affect the shadows of Kazy's skin.
Kazzy: o___O;; *thinks for a moment...then humps back*
Yeah, the shadows and shading etc definitely needed a second opinion. Thanks for that. Normally I use the airbrush for shading and sample from another source, though sometimes I use a 50% grey overlay layer or mask, and use the burn/dodge on that. I don't like how orange it makes things though, so I limit my use of it.
Using different colours though? Sounds like a worthy experiment to me I'll experiment with it but Iunno how many more layers my machine can handle. The RAM capacity the file is using is over 200MB already It takes about a minute and a half to save xD
It'll be fun trying to get strands of hair on them. It needs it though, I agree. I'm using an optical mouse at the moment (too poor to buy a tablet as yet), but I might be able to pull it off. What I did with it so far is set the smudge on 2px, then go mad with the mouse (about 80% opacity/flow with the smudge). I think just a few highlights of a pale colour, made sharper, could probably work, methinks.
Thanks for the ample critique, it was most definitely helpful...it gives me a new perspective on the work *covers you in a truckload of easter eggs and skips off into the sunset*

...jokes! Your shading technique is so damned good. I wish I could help you with PS, but I specialise in hand-drawn art. Good luck with the comp! ^^
(I won't be entering because I'm helping out with the DDR comp *waits for a reply from Stace* >>; )
Lol...heh, I wish my specialty was still hand-drawn art T_T; I've f*cked up my right hand so much with the freaking G4 mice...I really need to get that tablet.
DDR comp, huh? If I wasn't so out of shape, I'd join in that too ^^

We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
